The Physics-Technical Institute (PhysTI) is a research organization established by Decree of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR of December 27, 1990 No. 535 “On the organization of the Physics-Technical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR”.

In 1988 at the suggestion of the President of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR U.M. Sultangazin corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR B. N. Mukashev was entrusted with the organization of the Physics-Technical Institute (PhysTI).

In 1991, January 28 the Resolution of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR "On the organization of the Physics-Technical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR." was presented.

The main research directions of the Physics-Technical Institute were:

-development of the scientific foundations of radiation-ion modification of solids (physics of processes and changes in the properties of metallic and semiconductor materials);

-development of methods of analysis and diagnostics of surface and bulk properties of solids (new devices, equipment and software).

In 1991 corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, now Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, B.N. Mukashev was appointed as a Director of the Institute.

On November 11, 1996 by the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Physics-Technical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR was reorganized by joining the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR to the Physics-Technical Institute of the Ministry of Science - the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

On October 22, 2007 the Limited Liability Company “the Physics-Technical Institute” (PhysTI LLP) was established in accordance with the Decree protocol No. 131 of the Center of Earth Sciences and Metallurgy and Enrichment Joint Stock Company, in which the Joint-Stock Company “National scientific and technological holding“ Parasat ”has a 100% participant.

In 2014, December 19 according to the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 1330 a non-commercial JSC KazNRTU named after Kanysh Satpayev was created. So,  reorganized JSC "NNTH" Parasat "by dividing into JSC" NTC Parasat "," Center of Science "," National Center for Seismological Observation and Research. "

In 2015, June 9 according to paragraph 2 of the Protocol Decision of an authorized person of JSC "Center of Science" No. 1, 100% share of JSC "Center of Science" in LLP “U.M. Ahmedsafin Institute of Hydrogeology and Geoecology. ", Institute of Geography , Physics-Technical Institute and  Institute of Geological Sciences named after K.I. Satpayev transferred to the ownership of the NJSC "Satbayev KazNITU ".

There are 8 laboratories in the PhysTI in our days, each of which has a scientific and technological infrastructure to conduct basic and applied research. The Institute has totaly energy, water and heat supplied three laboratorical and industrial buildings with a total area of ​​8,800 square meters.
